Technical Documentation Engineer

The job

Little Sun is looking for a Technical Documentation Engineer to join our team in Berlin, Germany, to develop and maintain a technical and quality assurance documentation system throughout the entire product engineering process.

The primary job responsibilities include: the production of full engineering and testing specifications as well as production and quality control documentation monitoring in close collaboration with the Research and Development and the Production departments.

Your challenges will also be to

  • Write and participate in the creation and maintenance of product development documents such as Design Briefs, Requirement Specification Sheets, Feasibility Reports etc. in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Write and participate in the creation and maintenance of production documents such as Working Instructions (WI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Engineering Change Orders (ECO) etc. in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Develop an understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly) and DTC (Design to Cost) concepts and their appropriate application.
  • Write and participate in the creation and maintenance of quality assurance and control documents such as Testing Specifications, Test Reports etc. in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Write and participate in the creation of technical communications including Engineering Memorandums (EM's), technical letters, technical work task/scopes and customer deliverables.
  • Development and maintenance of an internal Knowledge Management System
  • Planning and scheduling and monitoring of Project Status
  • Participate in vendor and customer meetings and presentations
  • Provide input to cost estimates, schedules, and proposal preparations
  • Liaising with vendors
  • Research

The profile

We are looking for a candidate who is solution-oriented and who is excited to engage in the complexity of innovative global business in a startup spirit and in dealing with engineering challenges.
Knowledge and experience in production or quality management and the development of related documentation is highly valuable.
Your profile must reflect cross-cultural sensitivity and empathy. Furthermore, excellent communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

You have a university degree (or equivalent experience) in industrial, mechanical, mechatronics or quality engineering with a production or product development related background.
  • Complete fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Other languages such as Mandarin are a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in development and maintenance of (production and quality) documentation.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • Ability to understand all kinds of technical documents and challenges.
  • Knowledge in handling CAD or Geber software is a plus.
  • Knowledge in electronics development is a plus.

Wir suchen ab Ende Februar eine Praktikantin/einen Praktikanten als Unterstützung unseres Teams in Berlin mit den Tätigkeitsschwerpunkten Kommunikation und Social Media.

Du musst in Deinem Studium oder zur Vorbereitung darauf ein Pflichtpraktikum absolvieren und unterstützt uns 5 oder 6 Monate in Vollzeit.

Die LittleSun GmbH ist ein Start-up, das von dem Künstler Olafur Eliasson und dem Ingenieur Frederik Ottesen gegründet wurde. Little Sun ist sowohl ein Kunstobjekt als auch eine Solarleuchte, die zuverlässiges, sauberes und erschwingliches Licht spendet und den Kern unseres internationalen social business bildet.

Deine Tätigkeitsschwerpunkte wären:

  • Inhaltliche Mitarbeit bei der Erstellung von Kommunikationsmaterialien
  • Unterstützung im Bereich Social Media – Posts in Englisch und Deutsch schreiben, zusätzliche Inhalte für Foto- und Videomaterial unserer online Plattformen strategisch planen und weiterentwickeln
  • Aufbereitung und Erstellung von Materialien für die Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, insbesondere Recherche
  • Pflege der Datenbank sowie des Bild- und Textarchivs
  • Allgemeine organisatorische und administrative Aufgaben

Du erfüllst im Idealfall folgende Voraussetzungen:

  • Du bist ein Kommunikationstalent und sprichst fließend Englisch und Deutsch
  • besitzt sehr gute Computerkenntnisse und beherrschst im Idealfall neben den Office-Programmen auch Photoshop, inDesign, etc. Zusätzliche Erfahrungen im Bereich Fotografie- und Videobearbeitung (zB. Imovie) sind von Vorteil.
  • Du bringst etwas Marketing-Kenntnisse mit
  • Du schreckst nicht vor klassischen Organisationsaufgaben zurück
  • hast genauso eine Affinität für Kunst und Kultur als auch für den 'social business' Bereich
  • verfügst über eine selbstständige und strukturierte Arbeitsweise
  • Du arbeitest gerne im Team, bist motiviert und erlernst gern Neues

Internship: Communications and Campaigns

From January/February 2016 we are looking for an intern to support our communications and campaigning work. The internship will last for 5-6 months and be full-time.

To apply for this position you must be enrolled at a university or similar educational institution and complete this internship as an official part of this course.

Artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen developed the Little Sun solar LED lamp to get clean, affordable light to the 1.1 billion people worldwide living without electricity in ‘off -grid’ areas. Little Sun is at once a solar lamp, a social business, a work of art, and a way to connect the world through sharing light.

Your main task would be supporting the work of the communications and projects team including:

  • Preparing posts for the Little Sun social media channels and assist with developing the Little Sun social media strategy
  • Assisting in sending out the Little Sun newsletter and retail news
  • Sourcing photos for communication materials
  • Assisting in preparing/producing additional audio-visual resources
  • Providing organizational and logistical support for Little Sun projects and campaigns
  • Researching and preparing supporting materials for Little Sun press and PR
  • Maintaining and updating the contact database as well as image database
  • General office support as and when needed

Your Profile:

  • You have excellent communication skills and speak English fluently (German a significant asset)
  • You have good knowledge of computers, know Microsoft Office well, and ideally you have some experience using editing tools like IMovie and design programs like Photoshop, InDesign etc.
  • General office support/administrative routine tasks is not something you shy away from
  • You are interested in culture and arts as well as social inclusive business and global issues
  • You are capable of working in structured, efficient manner, managing your time well, and understand the importance of deadlines
  • You enjoy working in a team, but can also work independently
